  • Watch them step off the basket and track the canopy open from the air
  • Stay aloft afterward for a full, peaceful descent with your pilot

What the morning actually looks like

From pre-dawn parking lot to sunrise over the valley.

Balloons fly at sunrise because the air is calmest then. You’ll be up before the sun — and in the air by the time it crests the hills. Here’s how the morning unfolds.

1
~5:30 AM

Arrive

Meet your pilot at the launch site. Coffee’s on you. We’ll hand out waivers and run a quick safety briefing.

2
~5:45 AM

Inflation

Watch the envelope come to life. A fan blows cold air in, then the burner heats it. The balloon stands up in about 15 minutes.

3
~6:15 AM

Lift off

Sunrise hits the ridgelines. The burner fires and you leave the ground with less drama than an elevator. You’ll wave at your crew.

4
~1 hour

In the air

Drift wherever the wind is going. We fly as low as treetops and as high as 3,000 ft. Your pilot narrates the landscape.

5
~7:30 AM

Landing & toast

A soft touchdown in a field somewhere. The chase crew arrives with the trailer. We pack up with a traditional balloonist’s toast.

Meet the pilots

Flown by people who grew up in the air.

Every flight is piloted by an experienced, licensed aviator. Both of our pilots started in fixed-wing planes as teenagers, logged decades of flight time, and then expanded that love into hot air. You're not just going up β€” you're going up with someone who knows the air.

Pilot

Dee Johnson

Founder Β· Lead Pilot

Dee's been flying since he was fourteen, starting in fixed-wing planes with his father. After thousands of hours in an airplane, he expanded his love for the air from planes to hot air balloons. Dee's excitement for flight, for the Temecula wine country, and for the people he takes up with him is infectious. You won't help letting it rub off on you by the time you land.

Pilot

Mike Stout

Commercial Pilot

Mike was also raised in the aviation industry β€” his father flew, and Mike was in the cockpit from a young age. He's been flying fixed-wing planes in Southern California for over 20 years. He lives locally and has a genuine appreciation for the beauty this region holds both from the ground and from the air.

What riders say

Stories from the basket.

Real words from real sunrise flights. (Note to Dee: swap these placeholder quotes for your actual favorite reviews — first name + city is usually the right attribution.)

Dee took us up over the vineyards for our anniversary. I’ve done a lot of things in my life. Nothing has ever felt that peaceful. Worth every single thing we paid.

Watched my brother jump out of the balloon from about three feet away. I’m 54 years old and it’s still the coolest thing I’ve ever seen a person do. Dee is a class act.

Private Sweetheart for the proposal. She said yes at 2,800 feet. The ring box actually shook in my hand. Dee stayed out of frame the entire time and gave us the moment. Could not recommend more.

Frequently asked

Before you book.

Quick answers to the questions we get most often. Still curious about something? Text us at 951-514-1553.

When do balloons fly?
Nearly always at sunrise. Early-morning air is calmest and coolest, which is what balloons need for a smooth, predictable flight. Plan to meet before dawn so we can launch as the sun comes up. Evening flights only happen in specific weather windows.
What if the weather is bad on my flight day?
Weather is the one thing we can't negotiate with. If wind, rain, fog, or thermal conditions aren't right for a safe flight, we'll reschedule β€” at no charge, no penalty. Final go/no-go calls are typically made the evening before or the morning of. Safety is non-negotiable and it's why we've been doing this as long as we have.
How long is the actual flight?
Most shared and private flights are about one hour airborne, with ~2–3 hours total on the ground for setup, launch briefing, landing, and pack-out. Skydive Ride-Alongs depend on conditions and the jump plan β€” we'll give you a specific time when you book.
Are there weight limits?
Yes β€” hot air balloons have capacity limits based on the basket, burner, and daily atmospheric conditions. Please text us with weights at the time of booking so we can place you on the appropriate flight. We'll always be straightforward about what will and won't work.
What should I wear and bring?
Dress in layers. Mornings start cool; once the burner is on and you're airborne the basket is comfortably warm. Closed-toe shoes, long pants, a hat with a brim, and a jacket you can take off. Bring a camera, bring water. Do not bring anything loose you aren't willing to watch fall out of a basket.
Is this safe? What about FAA stuff?
Our pilots are FAA-certified commercial balloon pilots with decades of combined flight experience across both fixed-wing and lighter-than-air. Hot air ballooning is one of the oldest forms of human flight and β€” flown conservatively β€” one of the calmest. We don't fly in weather that makes us uncomfortable. Ever.
How do I actually book?
Text 951-514-1553 with the flight you want, the date range you're hoping for, and how many people. We'll come back to you with availability and a price. All inquiries are handled by text β€” it's the fastest way to reach us.
Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes. Text us to arrange a gift certificate for any flight type β€” great for birthdays, anniversaries, and "I have no idea what to get them" moments. We'll email a printable certificate with the recipient's name and your message, and they can redeem it on any mutually-available date.
Where do flights depart from?
Most flights depart from Perris, CA, about 20 minutes from Temecula and 75 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. We'll send exact meeting instructions the day before your flight, including the launch location, which shifts with wind direction.
